The Environment: All about the Subsurface Investigation

What Is Subsurface Investigation?

A subsurface investigation is usually required in the Phase 2 ESA by drilling in order to obtain samples of soil and/or groundwater below the potentially contaminated site. Sites with high potential of requiring subsurface investigation include:

  • Dry cleaning operations
  • Printing Facilities
  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Gas stations
  • Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)
  • Leaking tanks
  • Hazardous materials surrounding the subject property

From the Phase 1 to Phase 3 Environmental Site Assessment, Venture Engineering has had extensive experience from all types of scopes involved with the preparation of the ESA. Give us a call at 780-484-1974 today!

What is Land Remediation

Land remediation is the process by which land resources are restored to their “baseline condition”

What Is Land Remediation?

Land remediation is the process by which land resources are restored to their “baseline condition”, or the condition of the natural resources and services as they would have existed had environmental damage not occurred. Remediation involves land management practices which can remove, control, contain or reduce environmental risks, so that the site no longer poses any significant threat to human health or the environment. Thus, remediation stops or reduces the pollution or polluting activities that threatens health (human or wildlife) by removing it and cleaning up the remnants. It is often done in a well-coordinated fashion with reclamation.

What is Environmental Reclamation?

When a natural area is damaged through processes such as erosion, mining, flooding or commercial development, environmental reclamation is undertaken to restore the area to its equivalent productivity, and is usually done in coordination with land remediation (which is the removal of the pollutant.  Ensuring compliance within applicable federal and provincial environmental regulations, reclamation specialists identify contaminated areas, develop reclamation plans, and inspect, monitor, and evaluate reclamation projects such as the construction of wetlands, planting of trees and vegetation, or ensuring safe environments for people to live and work in.
